[Editor’s Note: Welcome to MSF’s new Morning Would series. This will be a regular feature here on the site where I basically have carte blanche to write about anything I want to. (And this differs from every other post…how?)
Primarily, I will be taking advantage of this feature on mornings like today, when there are no obvious hot button topics to tackle nor other weekly features to post, and I feel like invoking a clever, slightly crass pun while also providing “useful” info. Enjoy.]
We’re going off-topic with this one and taking a quick break from sports. Just for fun.
I don’t watch a whole lot of TV that does not involve sports. Lately, however, I have been catching up on old TV shows by buying the DVDs and watching an episode or two late at night while I wind down and fall asleep. Among the shows that I’d never seen and have now gotten caught up on: Scrubs, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Burn Notice, and the incomparable Arrested Development.
So don’t point and laugh when I tell you that I have only recently discovered the greatness of The Office over the past month or so. Just last night I finished up the final episode of Season Three.
Before I’d seen the show, I never really understood what all of the fuss was about.
Now I know, and I get it…completely. (And even though I’m about to discuss two of the ladies from The Office, Dwight Schrute is clearly the best part about the show.)
The Office is a great show. I haven’t decided yet if I like it more than Arrested Development, but I do like the fact that after finishing Season Three, unlike with the incomprehensibly canceled A.D., there is a Season Four to move onto. And then a Season Five. And a Season Six.
Well, in the episode I watched last night, one of the final scenes involves Kevin asking Jim who he thinks is more attractive: his then-current girlfriend Karen Fillippelli, played by Rashida Jones, or his previous (and future) infatuation Pam, played by Jenna Fischer.
Since it’s Friday morning, and since I am not yet ready to move onto my actual work responsibilities today, and since I just found a cool new image gallery plugin for WordPress, I decided that this topic would be perfect as a second dose of Morning Would.
So, even though I already know how this will play out in the ensuing Office seasons I’m about to watch, here’s the question this morning: would you choose Rashida Jones or Jenna Fischer?
Because I don’t want to lose any non-Office fans with this post, I won’t get into discussing too many of the specifics of Jones’ and Fischer’s characters.
The quick Office-specific summary:
Pam is the sweet, down-to-earth, timid, “girl next door” secretary who is Jim’s best friend and simultaneous crush. Unfortunately, neither has been single at the same time during the first three seasons, but we all know that they are perfect for eachother.
Karen is the cute, spritely, more assertive, huskier voiced girl that Jim meets when he is temporarily transferred to a different, and who then transfers back with Jim to the original office. She is also somewhat needy and likes late-into-the-night discussions of feelings and such.
But we all know that Jim is going to end up with Pam (and I recently killed any suspense for myself by accidentally seeing a commercial for the currently airing season of The Office) so the debate is somewhat moot.
Let’s find out a little bit more about the actresses that play these lovely ladies, and then browse some images…all of which are tasteful should you be perusing this post at work.

If I were Jim in The Office, I’d definitely go with Pam. They have too special a connection, plus it’s a foregone conclusion anyway. But if the debate is Rashida Jones versus Jenna Fischer, I’d go with Rashida Jones, even though Jenna Fischer is from Indiana like me, for the following reasons:
- Rashida’s younger by a couple of years and not currently married.
- How cool would it be to hang out with Quincy Jones?
- I like the brunettes, what can I say?
- She was on Chappelle’s Show and has hosted SNL, so she’s obviously got a good sense of humor.
- She’s not a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Come live in Dallas and you’ll understand this one.
So, my conclusion to today’s second Morning Would question — would I choose Rashida Jones or Jenna Fischer? — I’m going with Rashida.
