There was no better way for Gonzalez to publish a story about Ibanez' possible drug usage than to scour the internet and find a nice blog reporting it and then 'expose' the writer.

Maybe if I searched hard enough, I might find a blogger mention his thoughts that Michael Jordan might join the PGA tour.

I still cannot explain Rosenthal. Maybe after Tony Kornheiser lost his job at the Washington Post, he felt his job security was tenuous at best and is acting out...

Jerod,

As I said many times in my email with you: Hang in there. You did a great job. The MSM has done this sort of conjecture, with less support, yet they get away with it.

Rock on.

Just watched the clip from the ESPN exchange between Morris, Gonzalez and Rosenthal and have a few thoughts:

I haven't heard a conversation involving fans about Ibanez' season that hasn't included speculation that he was using PED's. Whether he is or not borders on irrelevance, any honest conversation about him right now has to include the possibility. It's the elephant in the room.

Ken Rosenthal, embarrassed himself with the holier than thou attitude and rolling of his eyes. I was surprised he seemed so...pissed off.

Having never heard of or seen this website before this "story", it strikes me that this Morris kid is not 42-years old and did appear to be the most thoughtful, honest and articulate of the bunch.

In respects to Gonzalez and Rosenthal, I honestly don't know what they were talking about and why they (less so Gonzalez) were so upset. What exactly is the problem here; that someone wrote on their blog that they think a 37-year old who has put up career numbers in 3 months might be juiced?

Anyone, professional or otherwise who doesn't mention the possibility in this climate is being disingenuous at best and likely currying favor with the athletes or working some other unspoken agenda if they don't.

Jeanine is right. We can't trust the television media to report the truth for fear of losing sponsors thus profits. So yes, even ESPN is now suspected of attempting to squash the rightful opinion of a sports fan. JRod should continue to blog what the average baseball fan already believes. Mainly, that steroid usage in baseball has hurt the game and the fans who love baseball. Hopefully, JRod's article might somehow kickstart people's demand for drug free players. Gee, wouldn't it be something if RI, instead of exploding, would have simply agreed to be tested and asked all players to voluntary do the same. Now, that's a national hero!

Jerod, you did a fabulous job on ESPN. Unfortunately, no one was listening. And, many appear to have not caught onto to what you actually wrote. It was a kangaroo court. You were deemed guilty prior to snapping on your microphone. Rosenthal was ignorant and bumptious. (He was at the Baltimore Sunpaper for a while)

I am a 60-year-old retired guy just having fun with a golf blog since about February. It did not take long to pick up on the enmity between golf bloggers and the mainstream golf journalists. I believe the top notch mainstreamers do not even think about us. They do their job and do it well. But, I feel many are apprehensive about the print industry as a whole and fear losing their job as many of their colleagues have already. Self-centered fear is an ugly monster.

I like what you are doing with your site. And, I have a suggestion. I am not a Jay Mariotti fan, but what little time I have spent reading your stuff, he seems to occupy a very special place in your heart. Be the bigger person, write a combination forgiveness, obituary and funeral piece about him; then bury it. Why are you renting space in your head to someone like him?

I think what you said and did is honorable above and beyond Media. The truth is that many of us out here don't trust the Media and we speculate on what they are saying all the time. Are they exaggerating or saying what sounds good so they don't lose thier Jobs. Jerod Morris, you sound to me to be an honest fan, a fantastic writer and most important a man of intrigerty who spoke your beleif. I hope no matter how far up the ladder you go...you never have to give that up. As Neyer said in so many words....YOU GO BOY...!!!

@KVB, that's right. It was the first time I moved to Dallas. And we had John Melton doing all those voices for the pilot.

It is so sad how relevant that song and video still are. Who would have thought...

Ah we had that come out right after Bonds. We wrote and recorded it January (2007) that year but released the video then after Bonds broke Aaron's record. Always my favorite line "Pitchers get no free pass, they stick needles in their ass, Roger Clemens, how do still throw so fast" ha
