You list Drew Bledsoe as a success, but Mike Vick as a failure…really? Drew Bledsoe pro bowl selection 4x out of 14 year career 1 injury year., Mike Vick 3x out of 7 year career 2 injured years! I'd put my money on Vick! Oh yeah Drew does have a Superbowl ring…….but so does Charlie Batch and Byron leftwich.

@Peter, thanks for catching that. Just a typo on my part. As a Browns fan, I subconsciously look for every opportunity to diss Tim Couch, but obviously that was not the right place. He was a junior when he came out.

I update the post and gave you credit for pointing out my mistake. I appreciate the head’s up.

I’m confused, you list Tim Couch as an underclassmen bust, but later in the article, use him as an example to say that drafting senior QB’s don’t always work out well either. Did you mean to say Akili Smith or Dan McGwire or Cade McKnown (sp?)… or was he really a senior?

I am impressed with the research this article shows in order to recommend a decision. I also like the classy way you combine quotes from a philosopher with sports news. Keep up the high quality reporting. My Broncos need a defense in this draft, although talk is they may try to go for Sanchez. They should read your report before taking that step.

@Dennis, I haven't had a chance to go through this article yet, but upon skimming it looks like it does what you asked for: Analysis of the 1st Round Quarterbacks in the 1990s
Using a first round pick on a quarterback is said to be the ultimate risk in the NFL - a franchise leader can change your team for the next 10 years, but so can a bust that flames out of the league.

I always thought the batting percentage for first round quarterbacks was relatively low anyway; does anyone have a list of senior 1st Rd QBs since 1990 and is the number of successes very different?
