In Cleveland, the sports talk radio airwaves were filled with doom, gloom, and trade talk all day Tuesday in reaction to the Cavaliers loss to the Lakers on Monday.
Everybody was chiming in with what they think the Cavaliers ‘need’. The Cavs need to get longer….the Cavs need to add depth up front…the Cavs need to add one more piece — I agree all that would help, but this is not what the Cavaliers “need”.
What the Cavaliers need is to get healthy…just relax and get healthy.
With Delonte West and Zydrunas Ilgauskas healthy, and the Cavaliers at full strength, I would bet my foreclosed house that there isn’t a team in the NBA that could beat the Cavs (4) out of (7) times come playoff time. But right now they’re not healthy. And on Monday, the Lakers exposed their lack of depth up front…errr…their lack of a 7’3″ starting center in uniform.
If Ilguaskas plays on Monday the Cavaliers are more competitive up front. If Delonte West played Monday, Mo Williams would have gotten more open looks. But they didn’t play, and the Cavaliers lost. They don’t need new players, they just need healthy ones. Brad Miller, Mike Miller, Johnny Salmons, and Marcus Camby would all have been as effective as Z and Delonte Monday night if they were hurt too.
So let’s just sit back and let these guys get healthy, let the team get to full strength, and relax. If there is a move to be made, Ferry will make it. Give the guy a little credit, he did trade Larry Hughes, Donyell Marshall, and Damon Jones in one calendar year.
