@Griffin, great points.

One thing is absolutely certain, and that is that Marvin Harrison has gotten a tremendous benefit of the doubt because of his mostly sterling reputation, while Plaxico Burress has received no benefit of any doubt (not that there is much doubt in the first place) because he has such a checkered past.

And your point about Dixon changing his story is very valid. That is why I was interested to see the results of his supposed hearing on November 17th for lying to police. I would thank that would have cleared up a lot of the questions still surrounding this case.

This comparison reminds me of a recent Chris Rock stand up routine. He says he saw pictures of Sarah Palin after she hunted down moose in a helicopter and shot them up. And then he says, "I see this and I thought....why is Michael Vick in jail?!"

The victim said early on that Harrison WASN'T the shooter (as did a few witnesses). He changed his story to suit the civil case. Obviously Harrison is still an idiot for having the gun around (and trying to conceal it after the fact).

The case against Burress is bolstered by Pierce attempting to hide the gun and Burress searching for (and finding) a hospital that would treat a gunshot wound anonymously, or at least without contacting the police. Given his discipline history with the Giants, including numerous fines for missed meetings prior to his suspension this year, I don't think it's any wonder that the Giants decided he's more trouble than he's worth. Indeed, the Giants could have just as easily suspended him and had him available for the playoffs if they wanted to, and they decided to just cut bait long term. This should give you an idea as to their mindset.

Burress' gun went off accidentally in a crowded night club. Shooting himself and causing a minor injury was easily the best thing that could have reasonably happened to him, because I don't think it's reasonable to expect that a weapon discharged, albeit somewhat randomly. in a nightclub would avoid hitting anyone.

A criminal court requires the state to prosecute a case beyond a reasonable doubt. The same is not true for civil cases, you only have to believe that the defendant is PROBABLY (50.1% sure) the culprit. They're very different standards of judgement, and this probably isn't irrelevant when wondering why Harrison is still playing.

I hope not, cause the Eagles are a mess as it is.
