The Rams aren’t going to be throwing around that kind of money at a head coach. Chip Rosenbloom and his sister – the owners after the death of their mother Georgia Frontiere – will have to probably pay a big inheritance tax and still pay Scott Linehan. There is some question whether Chip will keep the team or sell it, making it even more of a remote possibility of luring big name coaches. Big name coaches don’t come to teams with uncertain ownership situations.

@Jim,

Both are good thoughts, but I think the presence of Devaney as GM hurts the Rams’ chances with both. Shanahan will almost surely want total control, and Schottenheimer as seemed interested in taking a position that gives him front office power. I think the Rams want to go with a young up-and-comer to get a fresh face.

What about Marty Schottenheimer or even Mike Shanahan. I know they are big names and the Rams may not be able to land them but let’s aim high.

I am really surprised Steve Mariucci’s name hasn’t come up yet in any team’s search this year. I think Washington was the only team to even interview him last year.

I’m a big fan of Jim Haslett, but I can see the need to move further from anything to do with Linehan’s men. The growing trend in the NFL seems to be to hire the young up and coming assistants over the previous experienced head coaches.
