Daunte Culpepper Fantasy Analysis – May Start Over Dan Orlovsky v Jaguars

Daunte Culpepper Detroit Lions Fantasy Analysis For what has already been a miserable season, the Detroit Lions may have just taken a turn for the worse. Dan Orlovsky had a removable hard cast on his right (throwing) hand Monday, protecting a sprained thumb that could keep him out indefinitely, this according to the Detroit News.

The Lions new acquisition, Daunte Culpepper reported to the Lions practice facility on Monday after signing a two year deal, bringing the 31-year old veteran back into the league.

Onto the importance of this: the potential fantasy value of Daunte Culpepper. We all know the history behind Daune Culpepper: an amazing career with Minnesota when he had Randy Moss to reel in his 60 yard bombs, and then an apparent post-injury implosion as he toured with the Raiders and the Dolphins.

Initially, I find Culpepper to hold no fantasy value. He does not know the offense, nor will he learn it in five days. He cannot possibly be in NFL game shape yet, and by the way, Detroit is 0-8! This injury was a shame for Orlovsky, who looked impressive, for a Lions quarterback, last week against a good Chicago Defense.

I do think that Daune Culpepper has a chance to earn the starting job based on the competition he is surrounded by, and Culpepper could be a player with fantasy value in the future. I just do not see any value in the immediate future. Daunte Culpepper would benefit from more talent around him on the offensive side of the ball, and I am sure he would like to have Roy Williams back as well.

To you Detroit Lions fans, it will get better in time, and I feel for you, as I am a Wolverines fan and know all about the difference a good quarterback can make

Although I don’t agree that Culpepper is terrible…but if he is involved in things like this, there are just too many other players out there that are willing to bust their ass and not get in trouble, that could take his place.
