Braylon Edwards on Dropped Passes, Anderson Benching | Quinn Era Starts Thursday
On Day 3 of Brady Quinn as starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns, the players and the benched Derek Anderson are adjusting – or have at least toned down their grumbling.
But no one shows more confidence than Brady Quinn.
“I’m knocking the dust off my old cleats,” said Quinn, according to ESPN affiliate WKNR-AM 850, in reference to his last start as a senior for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Browns Head Coach Romeo Crennel made the move to Quinn on Monday, following the Browns 37-27 loss to Baltimore in a game that saw the Browns take the lead 27-13 in the third quarter. Blowing the lead wasn’t D.A.’s fault.
In fact, sports writers believe that had Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards caught Anderson’s fourth quarter bomb, the Browns could have taken control of the game and won.
Quick poll break:
Romeo Crennel mentioned in his Monday press conference that the Browns rest of the season would have to also depend on “supporting players.”
Braylon Edwards did not speak to the media Monday, but on Tuesday he told reporters that he accepted Crennel’s decision.
The normally unflappable Edwards bristled when asked if he thought Anderson would still have his job had Edwards caught that pass. Edwards has 12 dropped passes this season.
“Yes, I wish I could have caught that pass,” Edwards said. “Should I have caught that pass? Yes. Have I thought about it? Yes. But if I catch that pass, is D.A. still the starter?
“I mean, what kind of questions is that?”
It was a question on everyone’s mind except apparently Edwards’.
He reminds me of the guy at work who never admits to making a mistake, is never wrong — and if he does drop the ball, blames it on something or someone else.
I wonder what Quinn will do when Edwards drops one of his passes.
Browns fans won’t have long to wait.
The Brady Quinn Era starts Thursday night.
(Editor’s Note: I am now hating myself for jinxing the Browns’ 2008 season by claiming that Braylon Edwards would win his stupid preseason bet with Michael Phelps and be the key to the Browns success. I suck.)
