Midwest Sports Fans – Author Spotlight: Kaner

       BallHype: hype it up!

midwest sports fansWelcome to another regular feature here at Midwest Sports Fans: the Author Spotlight. My goal for this series of posts is to recognize and provide an introduction to each of the writers who has worked so hard to help Midwest Sports Fans grow over the past 2 1/2 months.

Obviously I do not know many of our contributing authors personally, so I can’t provide a whole lot of biography information (or make this funny with inside jokes and relevant vicious insults). However, the author himself can. What I would like is for the spotlighted author to use the comment section to provide any relevant details about himself that he would like to. That may be as simple as typing “F-you Jerod, you’re a douche for writing this,” or as in-depth as you would like it to be. We’re starting a develop a pretty active community here, so let’s get to know eachother a bit if we can

Choosing who to spotlight first was somewhat difficult. KVB, Ryan Russell, and Nick Gerlach have been contributors from the beginning. When Midwest Sports Fans was nothing, they helped me churn out content and get the ball rolling. However, all three were ruled out because:

  1. Ryan Russell is a Cleveland Indians fan. No way in hell is an Indians fan getting top billing.
  2. KVB is a hippie
  3. Nick and Ryan live together — and I now live in conservative Texas, where the champions of social conservatism don’t condone such behavior. Just admitting that I have two male friends who live together could get me excommunicated from the church of…*ahem*…state of Texas.

Besides, none of them have been syndicated in the Chicago Sun-Times yet. But one of our writers has, and he is the first Author Spotlight: Sean Kane aka Kaner

Kaner was the first writer who I did not know personally that agreed to contribute. A current resident of the Windy City, Kaner stepped up and provided a much needed perspective on the White Sox and Bears from someone actually living in Chicago. (Of course, we later found out that Kaner might have conflicted or changing allegiances, but I’ve decided not to hold that against him.)

He has been active as a commentator, continued to produce solid content about the Bears and Big Ten football now that both Chicago teams are out of the baseball playoffs, and even had the foresight to leave links to his articles in ESPN.com forums. Smart move.

Anyway, here is a highlight of Kaner’s best work:

–Kaner comes through with video of Bobby Jenks’ last out in the White Sox one-game playoff win over Minnesota

–Kaner decides to come clean about his dual love for the White Sox and Rays

Open letter to DeSean Jackson after his infamous fumble against the Cowboys

And the highlight, and Reason #1 why Kaner is the honoree of our first Author Spotlight at Midwest Sports Fans:

–Kaner’s timely report about the firing of Denis Savard is the first Midwest Sports Fans post picked up for syndication; this post was picked up by the Chicago Sun-Times. (I hope the link stays live, but I apologize in advance if it is broken.

Congratulations Kaner. Eventually we’ll have some type of actual award for this. For now, you’ll have to just settle for this post and my very strong appreciation for all of your contributions thus far.
